I have been working on fixing up the inside of our house since we’ve moved in, but each time I pulled in the driveway, I realized I needed to refresh the outside too. So, when we had the to opportunity to work with a new line of paint by Modern Master’s designed specifically for front doors–“FRONT DOOR PAINT“–I was totally in.
As I mentioned in the post with all the details about our new home {HERE} we purchased this home “As-Is”, knowing we’d be changing it all anyway. The exterior colors in our neighborhood were established by the builder, our home has a very traditional beige/black/white scheme and came with a {very faded} red front door. I couldn’t wait to give the door a makeover, and while I would have loved to pick a fresh fun color from the Front Door Paint palate–like the fun “Fortunate” green—my HOA would have been ALL over us, so sadly a color like that wasn’t even a possibility. Instead we went with Modern Master’s traditional black color called “Elegant” and really couldn’t be happier with the result.
Just check out the fun front door colors Modern Master’s Front Door paint comes in:
Here is the “before” picture, taken the day before we moved in. The faded dark red door was NOT at all us. I couldn’t wait to get some paint on it. I also spray painted the faded outdoor lights black to match–the dull beige was just killing me, and I think both improvements made such a big difference in how the house looks.
And here is where we are today, of course mother nature has helped with adding some greenery, but the black paint makes a huge difference.
Since I can’t leave well enough alone, I had to steal borrow an idea from Terry and paint the inside of my door a fun color. I guess since I had to be conservative with the paint colors on the outside, I wanted something fun on the inside. I used the Modern Master’s paint color “Ambitious” which is a true, rich red. It’s just the right bit of the unexpected when you open the door.
You can’t see it when the door is closed…
But when it’s opened, it’s a fun surprise. The Front Door paint covers so well, this project took all of 10 minutes thanks to some quick taping and the fast-covering and quick-drying nature of the Front Door paint.
- It covers in two coats, dries quickly to a Satin finish and NEVER fades.
- The 24 Colors are based on the Emotional Color Wheel – there is a shade that is an expression of you!
- There is a free App for both iPhone and Android – You can iinstantly see how Front Door Paint can transform your door.
- You can order it directly from Amazon.com and Modern Masters Online.
- Front Door Paint is available at selected Lowe’s and Ace Hardwares. For readers in the Washington, DC area {like I am} you can find Front Door Paint at these select Lowe’s store locations: St. Mary’s County, Severn and North Hagerstown, Maryland

This was a really fun and easy project. I would have painted the door at some point but knowing I was using a paint designed for doors {and they come in a super easy-to-open jar} made this project so simple. Knowing it will never fade means I can move on to the projects inside our house and won’t need to paint it again. Just look how rich the black paint color is, it has just the right amount of gloss–these pictures were taken on a cloudy day, I promise that isn’t sun glare.
