Front Door Facelift

Front Door Facelift

Once upon a time there was a little girl who loved to play dress-up. She would put on her mommy’s shoes and the prettiest little dress she could find. Once in a blue moon, her mommy would let her play with make-up.

Before she knew it, she was dressing up for real! Now, that grown up mom and grandma rarely goes out of the house without her make-up. And invariably, sometime during the day, she’ll look in the mirror and realize… ‘I really need some lipstick’!

Well, that’s how I felt about our house-

it just needed some lipstick- a front door facelift!

We bought the model home in our community and, while it had lots of extras like deep crown molding and custom window treatments, it had a very generic front door… painted black.

I had known for some time that I wanted a red front door.

But it had to be the right red. Not too light, not too cherry. Not too orange, but just right (Yes, I know I sound like Goldilocks!). It needed depth and richness… a certain sophistication.

The folks at Modern Masters had just the color: Sophisticated! They take the guesswork out of choosing a color for your front door. All their colors are proven front door selections, some bolder than others. Their Front Door Paint covers incredibly well, and never fades! Here is a look at the Modern Master’s Front Door Paint color palette:

While at the Haven Blog Conference over the summer, I met the Modern Masters folks.

Modern Masters is a paint company extraordinaire! Their products are extremely user friendly, as is their website, where you can find lots of help and inspiration for most any project you can dream of! They even have a video tutorial for How to Paint Your Front Door:

Modern Masters provided a quart of Front Door Paint for me to review, and I give it 5 stars!!

After watching the tutorial, cleaning the door and taping it off, I was ready to begin.

As the experts at Modern Masters tell you in the instructions, You paint this part first (called the ‘reveals’):

Front Door Redo -

Then the inside of the panels…

Front Door Redo --

Then the cross grain horizontal parts (called ‘rails’)…

Front Door Redo ---

And finally, the vertical parts, called ‘stiles’…

and this is the finished product!

I am SO in love with this shade!! Our home is wearing just the right lipstick now!
