Quick DIY ceramic pot Makeover for Summer

Everybody has an old pot lying around.

So let’s get started.

This is such a fast, fun and easy fix for any boring planter.

Old or new it doesn’t matter.

For my project, I used a large fiberglass one we received as a gift with a beautiful ficus tree in it from the builder of our previous home.

It was lovely at the time but that was more than a decade ago.

An update was in order. No doubt.

For a quick DIY ceramic pot Makeover for Summer:

Start with a well-cleaned, dry surface and turn your pot upside down.

Flipping it over to paint makes it much easier to get a nice edge on the bottom of your pot.

I brushed on two coats of Americana® Decor’s Treasure blue;

allowing about 30 minutes in between.

Their thick, chalky finish paint glided right off of my brush onto the porous pot.

I let the paint completey dry for a couple of hours while I ran a few errands,

and when I came home I wiped on a shimmery glaze I made out of 1 part Modern Masters Metallic Steel Gray and 1 part water.

Working in small areas, I applied the glaze using a sponge and then removed the excess with a clean damp sponge.

The aging technique added an interesting depth to the gorgeous blue and accentuated the pot’s details making the inexpensive pot look very high-end.

After allowing the ceramic pot cure overnight,

I brushed on two very thin coats of Modern Masters Exterior Dead Flat Varnish.

Viola

It’s that easy

I love the pretty pop of color it adds to our front entry, don’t you?!

Once our quick DIY ceramic pot was ready for flowers I simply placed a smaller terra cotta pot inside it.

I had recently planted a white iris and trailing succulent vine in but the planting possibilities are unlimited and your’s will be too!

So put on those gardening gloves on and get ready for Summer!
