Every time I do this silver faux finish and post it on my Facebook page, you all go ga-ga!!!! It’s gorgeous, isn’t it??
(This post may contain affiliate links that help support my DIY blog. I only blog about products I use and love!)
We do this silver furniture finish over and over on bedroom furniture and I am going to tell you how to do it today!
First, you will need to prep your furniture by cleaning, using a liquid deglosser or TSP on it and sanding the pieces well. The better the prep; the better the durability so take your time on this!
Then, I have the the paint store tint a latex primer appropriate for furniture to a color similar to Sherwin Williams “Latte”. Roll that on with a mini mohair roller like this one.
Next, we paint the silver furniture with Modern Masters Warm Silver. It’s a silver….but like the name implies, it’s warm. So sometimes it looks champagne almost….truly beautiful!! We use the lowest nap roller we can find in the 4-inch size. You can also use a mini mohair roller like this one. Try not to overwork the rolling or you will see lap lines because it’s a metallic. Chip the crevices and roll everything you can. It will probably take 2 coats of metallic for perfect coverage!
Let dry.
Next, we glazed over the entire thing with a black glaze. I own a decorative painting company so I had some black glaze already mixed up that I used. You could use Modern Masters Black Pearl color mixed with this Furniture Glazing Cream. Apply the glaze and then be sure to wipe the glaze back a bunch so it just sticks mainly in the cracks. We use cheesecloth to do all of our wiping.
The glaze is what gives the silver furniture finish all of the dimension!!! See how it hangs up in all of the detailing? I love it!
Finally, if you want great protection for your furniture, I suggest Modern Master’s Masterclear in a satin sheen! It’s an awesome topcoat! Expensive but totally worth it. We call it liquid gold. It will protect your furniture for years and years to come.
We often spray the original furniture pulls/handles with black primer and black spray paint.
And it always turns out gorgeous!!!
The nice thing about this silver furniture finish is that it’s appropriate for a tween’s bedroom furniture…..
Or, this set was for “grown ups”.
Isn’t the detailing on this silver bedroom set unbelievable??
Drooooooooooool .
This silver furniture finish is not ONLY for furniture by the way. It is also stunning on fireplaces, ceiling medallions, picture frames, etc. It’s very versatile!
I have a graphic for you below to pin if you want!
Happy painting!
