Do you love the industrial design look? We do – and recently came across a gorgeous Metal Effects project in a restaurant with an incredible rustic vibe. The owner of the restaurant, Bistro Z in in Sussex, WI, had a set vision for its design. He approached talented decorative artist, Lisa Dane of Creative Collaborations, to work on several areas, one of which was the focal wall behind the bar.

After doing research online, Lisa decided a rust finish would fit his organic, industrial vision and would also be fun and unique for the patrons to enjoy. After creating a sample board, the owner gave the go-ahead and the process began.

Lisa taped off 5′ x 5′ sections and used Texture Effects to create the raised panels. After priming the wall with Metal Effects Primer and basing it all with the Iron Reactive Paint, the Rust Activator was sprayed on to begin the rust process. Lisa had a great team working with her, including fellow decorative artist Mindy Leitner.

Both the owner and the contractors on site enjoyed seeing the rust come alive. The were astonished that the Metal Effects line has real metal particles in the paint that were being ozidized. After the tape was pulled, the raised rust sections became prominent and eye-catching.

There are many organic design elements that were added after the decorative painting was done to pull it all together.

If you’ll note the dark pipes behind the bar, the original idea was to replace them and hang heavy iron pipes. That was proving costly and so Lisa worked her magic yet again. After texturing the joints of regular white PVC pipes with Texture Effects, she painted them with two Metallic Paint colors, Black Pearl and English Brown. Voila! They were attached to the wall and look amazing.
