Getting “Motivated” with Modern Masters Front Door Paint

Getting “Motivated” with Modern Masters Front Door Paint

A few months back {where does time go?}, I told you I was planning a little face lift for the entry of my shop. I painted these candle holders with Modern Masters Metal Effects and rePurposed them into lighting for the “soon to be” sitting area. Fast forward through a few not so exciting projects {dirt work and drainage} and we’ve made it to painting the door!

Remember the before?

Shop Entrance Before
Uuggh. I’ve wanted to paint it since the day they hung it! Dilema…time.

Solution. Modern Masters Front Door Paint.

Front-Door-Paint-Introduction-and-Colors

The quick dry, water based formula allows you finish painting in a matter of hours and be able to close the door! Oh, and it never fades, they guarantee it! That was important for me as my shop door gets direct sunlight for most of the day.

There are 24 gorgeous colors to choose from. They are based on the emotional color wheel and are meant to project personality! Modern Masters has made it easy for you to visualize all the colors on your door. Just download the Front Door Paint iPhone App or the Front Door Paint Android App, snap a picture of your door, then scroll through the entire palette! So easy! I ended up choosing “Motivated”. As a small business owner, that word means everything! I rely on motivation everyday to accomplish my tasks. My passion for my work really helps and I enjoy what I do but that entry could make my mornings even better!

I found a few oily stains on the door so I cleaned it with a TSP solution. I wanted to make sure I removed all traces of the oil before I got started. My door is metal but not slick so I skipped the primer. I scuffed it lightly then removed all the dust with a tack rag. I taped off my door handle and covered the floor before cutting in my edges.

The Front Door Paint is really thick. You’ll want to stir well, mixing from bottom to top. Before cutting in, I primed my foam roller so it would be ready for use. Just toss the roller into a plastic bag, add some product…

Then squish it into the roller until the foam is completely saturated.

Priming A Roller

Priming your roller will not only eliminate dry roller marks, it will actually save you product! To cut in around the handle and edges, I used a 2 inch chinex bristle brush. It worked great for the heavy bodied paint. Notice, I poured the paint into a cup. I never paint directly from the container. Trash happens and there’s nothing worse than contaminating an entire quart of paint!

Now, don’t freak out if you’re painting over a light color or metal and your first coat looks like this!

I promise, it will cover!

Here’s how my first full coat looked. A tiny bit scary if you’re new to painting. No fear! You never want to lay on thick heavy coats! Thin, even coats will yield much better results in the end!

Three coats later {only HALF the container} and my door was completely covered and drenched in awesomeness!

Totally IN LOVE!!!

The Front Door Paint was really easy to use! It went on smooth and dried quickly. Clean up was a breeze too! I rinsed my roller with plain water and used Scrubby Soap on my brush.

Hindsight tip: I closed the door {not all the way} while the last coat was drying to allow the sun to dry it good but I ended up picking up a few pieces of trash from the breeze. My perfectionist eye will see the tiny specs every time I enter but I’m going to live with them! Just thought I’d throw that in so you don’t make the same mistake I’ll know to leave my back door open when I use the other half of “Motivated” on it! Yea…it’s for back doors too!

You can find a wealth of information, including tips on choosing colors on Modern Masters Blog Cafe. Purchasing is quick and easy too! Front Door Paint is available at selected Lowe’s and Ace Hardware Stores as well as online via Amazon or the Modern Masters online shop.
