I’m in the planning stages of beautifying my shop entry. It’s pretty pitiful right now! We built the shop a year and a half ago and business has kept me from gussying up my work space. Well, the time has come and I am determined to have an entry that invites me in! I’ll be sharing the progress with you and hopefully it won’t take too long. As you can see, it really is a blank {ugly} canvas!
I worked on a few patina projects this week which will grace the new entry. These made me even more crazy excited to get it all put together! Now, I’ve shared my love for Modern Masters Metal Effects with you before on my Patina Cow and on this Funky Wardrobe. I seriously can’t get enough of this stuff! The paints are water based but they contain real metal particles. They’ll naturally age and tarnish over time, especially when exposed to the elements. I love that but, I’m an instant gratification kind of gal though, so I go right for the Patina Aging Solution! There are several different solutions which create an instant, authentic patina on ANYTHING!
I started out with these faux concrete candle holders.
I wanted peeks of gold to show through so I spray painted all three pieces with gold spray paint.
I then layered several different Modern Masters Metal Effects Paints, starting with Bronze. Remember to always pour a small amount into a separate container so you don’t contaminate your supply. Because the paint needs to be wet to react to the aging solution, you’ll want to work in small sections. For tall pieces like this, work from the bottom so you aren’t brushing over the aging solution which will run down. I lightly brushed the Bronze Paint on then, while it was still wet, I misted it with the Blue Patina Aging Solution.
You can see here, the bottom had already started to change by the time my second segment was complete.
I love to watch the paint age!
These will be outside in the weather and I want them to look like they’ve been aging naturally for years. You know that patina you see when a piece has been rained on for years and years? That’s the look I wanted so, I added Copper Paint and Green Aging Solution to the areas where water would naturally run and puddle.
That’s not all! I’ve tried burning candles in these before and it never worked out well! The holes are just not very deep and the candle always tipped over. Candles also weren’t a good choice because I wanted to leave them exposed to weather. The solution? Mason Jars!
I used hot glue to adhere Mason Jar lids into the holes.
Is that awesome, or is that awesome? Two of my favorite things, Blue Mason Jars AND Patina…together!! Makes my heart beat fast!
How ’bout now? <3<3<3
Did I mention how excited I am to spruce up my entry? Over.The.Moon! Stay tuned for all the goodness!
