Have you ever been really drawn into a tablescape? Not just by the awesome food on display, but by the accessories too. For me, an inviting tablescape tells a story with personal touches and pops of the unexpected! A simple but creative tablescape wows me much more than glitz and glam! Since the entertaining season is approaching, I thought I’d share a few tips for creating a one-of-a-kind tablescape. Best of all, the elements here can be re-used for multiple events!
First of all, repurposed items add instant character to a table because they already have a story! They’ve lived out their intended purpose and seeing them brought back to life in a new way is exciting! My Memorial Day tablescape started like this:
An old window pane
Reclaimed wood
Old door handles
A catalog drawer from an antique military file cabinet
Electric Insulators
Bed Springs
Mason Jars
Wire
The old window pane attached to reclaimed wood was exactly what I needed for my centerpiece. I used {carpenter grade} hot glue to attach round wood pieces to the bottom for a little added height.
I painted the entire piece with a Websters Color Wash, using my favorite shade of red {aka Knock My Socks Off Red} .
Wanna see the dark wax in action?
The old door handles needed some color so I used Modern Masters Metal Effects to instantly add the perfect touch of blue patina!
I used Bronze and Copper paint and Blue Patina Solution on the handles and the screws, so they’d match the handles.
Now for a few personal touches! Bed springs (or heavy gauge wire) + electrical insulators + endless possibilities!!
Turned right side up, insulators are perfect for displaying pictures, place setting cards, or little notes. Just wrap the wire around the recessed area of the insulator, and cut at desired height. Twist or crimp the end and your ready to go! I used leftover scrap book paper and a printable Memorial Day image here.
This small insulator rests upside down in the bed spring and serves as a toothpick holder!
I tucked the mason jars into the Army file drawer and used them to wrangle serving ware.
Lastly, y’all know I have an obsession with chalkboards and use them often when entertaining!
Having a large chalkboard on hand is always nice! Mine is painted in a neutral color so I get the most use out of it. The{Dollar Tree} chalkboard platters on the other hand, I have in several colors! They are just too cheap and easy to customize! I’ve used them at birthday parties, baby showers and soon, I’ll get to use them in my daughters wedding! In fact, I’ll be re-using most of this decor for the wedding!

Join me tomorrow for “Tip Talkin’ Tuesday”! I’ll be sharing a few tips on using burlap and show you how I created the cute banner and table runner!
Smooches!
