Copper Patina Paint Makeover

Copper Patina Paint Makeover

The last time I used Modern Masters Copper Patina paint, I gave some old clay pots an update. Today, I giving an update to this guy… He looks a little blah, a little too pale, to me. I thought he could use a makeover. I like my men with a little character and color to them.

(haha… I just read that line to my husband and he laughed – he says he’s glad he fits that description)

To be honest, I have no idea who this is… because all the greek and roman gods have busts that look very similar. He looks like Michaelangelo’s David to me. If you know his name, let me know.

Okay, if you read the last post, you know the process is as follows.

  1. Using the primer, give the piece two coats of primer and let dry for at least 12 hours.

The girls thought it was chocolate at this point while it dried. I see their point.
  2. Paint the first coat of copper paint and let dry.

This was the first coat. I have to say I love the look of just the copper paint. I think I might have to use it sometime without the activator.
  3. After applying the second coat, and while still very wet, spray with activator solution. Make sure the piece is already somewhere where you don’t have to move it or touch it, as this will make for ugly smears and you will be sad when that happens. Trust me on this.

Within a few minutes, you’ll see the color changing slightly.
  4. Let dry completely.

  5. Wait patiently and don’t touch it. Keep all cats away from your piece. They will want to investigate. So will the kids. Obviously, this is interesting stuff.

  6. Wake up the next day, and see how much handsomer your man has become.
