Bright and Happy Yellow Piano

Bright and Happy Yellow Piano

Life is funny, sometimes.

I mean who would have thought an old piano from the 70’s would teach me so many things I didn’t know…

I really needed to know.

Happy Yellow Piano project
1. Get a good BEFORE picture.

It ‘s NOT the most important thing I learned but it still should be number 1 because you have to take it before you get started not during like I did.

And, that goes even if you’re anxious super excited to get started or too lazy to go get your good camera like me.

2. Don’t take the piano apart!

That is really the #1 Lessoned Learned for me on this happy little piano makeover, by far.

Need I say more? This one bad idea made painting the piano take waaay longer than it should have. Then again I did research “how to paint a piano” for months before. Of course, I always think things will go more quickly than they actually do in reality, so take that at face-value.

And, even though I was so inspired by the pretty bright colored pianos I’ve seen around.

I had no problem deciding on a happy shiny yellow for that old 70’s piano.

3. Pick the Perfect Paint.

Even if it means buying multiple shades of the same color to get it just right! Trust me on this one, you’ll be glad you did. Plus you can always use the “no’s” for another piant project.

For this bright and happy yellow piano, I went with 3 coats of English Yellow of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint® and a 2 coats of Modern Masters’ MasterClear® Supreme in Gloss.

Ummh, did I mention the MM gloss is absolutely worth every pretty penny (coming from a girl who usually much prefers painted furniture in matte.) Gloss is usually too much trouble but not with that magical MM.

Oh, and…finally

3. Don’t RUSH it!

Or even think about starting a project like this when you should actually be getting Christmas shopping done. True story. Hey everyone practices “avoidance behavior” in their own way.

Most of all, enjoy the creative process. And remember…

sometimes, life is funny.
